Welcome to Africa Unite (AU), where we are dedicated to promoting human rights and fostering social cohesion in communities across South Africa. Learn more about our background, mission, approach, programmes, and impact.
AU is a Human Rights and Youth Empowerment organisation that works with citizens, refugees, and migrants to prevent conflicts, enhance social cohesion and promote socio-economic development.
Africa Unite exists to break barriers, confront injustice, and ignite unity. restoring hope, protecting human rights, and nurturing communities to build an Africa where dignity, equality, peace, and belonging are non‑negotiable, and every child, youth, and family can thrive with safety and pride.
We confront the fear and hatred that divides communities.
We respond to trauma, neglect, and systemic failure affecting youth.
We mend fractured communities through dialogue and shared purpose.
We elevate those often silenced or ignored.
We help people reclaim agency over their lives.
We build movements that outlast us.
This program is the heartbeat of Africa Unite’s mission to build peaceful, integrated communities. It addresses the root causes of conflict by educating both locals and migrants on their shared constitutional rights, helping to dissolve the “us vs. them” mentality.
Africa Unite recognizes that social change requires a collective voice. This initiative focuses on organizing grassroots activism into a powerful, sustainable force for policy reform at the national level.
Operating under the motto “My School is My Community,” this program treats the school environment as a “mini-country” to give learners a practical education in governance and democracy.
Named after the Xhosa word for “Brave Warriors,” this program provides a vital safety net for children in townships like Nyanga and Gugulethu who have been orphaned or affected by HIV/AIDS and violence.
Born from a response to xenophobia, AU is one of the leading voices for migrant and refugee rights in South Africa.
Africa Unite works to end the cycle of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) by providing women with the tools for both emotional healing and financial independence.
Africa Unite thrives through collaboration. Our partners share our vision of unity and empowerment, helping us amplify voices,
strengthen communities, and drive meaningful change across Africa. Together, we turn purpose into impact.
AU creates a “circle of support” that follows a child from the classroom to their front door, ensuring that poverty doesn’t end their academic journey.
By establishing student "cabinets," AU empowers learners to fix their own schools. Students take on roles like "Minister of Education" to address high dropout rates and improve school safety..
This program provides a safe after-school haven where children receive literacy tutoring and homework help, ensuring they don't fall behind due to a lack of resources at home.
AU works with parents through "Positive Parenting" workshops and home visits, helping caregivers create a stable, trauma-free home environment that encourages learning.
Africa Unite addresses the socioeconomic welfare of the people by tackling the root causes of poverty and the lack of opportunity that leads to poor health and social instability.
AU teaches disadvantaged communities skills to promote socio-economic independence and combat poverty.
This initiative promotes a culture of saving among local youth and refugees, helping them pool resources to start small businesses and share benefits.
They advocate for the rights of vulnerable groups, including the elderly and disabled, ensuring they have access to the basic resources needed for survival.
Africa Unite is rooted in human rights, community, and youth empowerment. From grassroots dialogues to national campaigns,
we amplify voices, strengthen communities, and inspire the next generation of changemakers.

I think this experience has been very formative and enriching for me. Being away from home has allowed me to see new things and develop my opinions. I would not hesitate to recommend South Africa and Africa Unite to my friends in French Guiana.
Joining the Africa Unite School Leadership Club has been a truly transformative experience for me. Before, I often struggled with confidence, especially when speaking in front of large groups. However, through the support, mentorship, and opportunities provided by the club, I have grown into a more fearless and self-assured leader. Africa Unite has helped me find my voice and taught me the importance of standing strong in my beliefs. Today, I can confidently address large crowds without fear, something I once thought was impossible. This journey has not only shaped me as a leader but also empowered me to inspire others and make a positive impact in my school community
